I am planning a cross country road trip and I want to visit car culture related places along the lines of the Pistenklause in Nurburg and the Seneca Lodge at Wakins Glen.

Any examples around the USA?

I haven't been yet, but the Henry Ford museum is at the top of my bucket list.

Siebkins at Elkhart Lake (near Road America), Route 66, Indy Motor Speedway, off the top of my head.

The area around Charlotte speedway. 80% of the NASCAR shops are within 15 minutes and have areas open to the public. Plus the speedway tour is pretty darn cool too.

The Unser museum in Albuquerque was pretty neat. Also the Corvette museum in Bowling Green, KY. Bonneville Salt flats have been flooded every time I’ve gone, but we went when I was a kid and it was pretty cool. Umm...if you can catch Pikes Peak near the hill climb - my brother and I took the cog railway up for the motorcycle race.

I'm trying to remember places I've stumbled across when I travel for work, I'll check back if I think of any more.

Los Angeles and Cars/Freeways is like London and The Underground - they are defined and transformed by their transportation systems. The greater Los Angeles area’s culture is so intertwined with car culture that it is difficult to separate the two. Even the way locals precede freeway numbers with “the” is a reflection of their cultural importance.

Baja Cantina in Carmel Valley, just over the hill from Laguna Seca.
